The Switch

You know how sometimes you just know what you want and you are dead set on it until something or someone comes along and presents something "better"? That is the theme of this months Sassy Lil Sketches layout.

My oldest daughter for as long as I can remember has been an Texas A&M girl. She didn't waiver as far as I know and she is now at A&M doing what she told me she wanted to go to college for since she was in the 6th or 7th grade.

On the other hand...

My younger two daughters are Texas Longhorn fans. Amber wanted to go to UT and get her Bachelors of Business and then go to Culinary School to be a pastry chef. She eventually wants her own pastry shop that specializes in gourmet cupcakes. Samantha on the other hand is a die hard UT fan so much so that she wants to be a Veterinarian. You see in Texas, A&M College Station is where the Vet School is. Samantha wants to get her degree at UT (at this point, I am not sure for what) and then transfer out of state to go to LSU so she can attend their veterinary program so that she won't have to go to A&M. Oklahoma is out of the question too (they are UT's rivals) Now granted...she's 15 and it might change but I am not holding my breath.

Cherie created the perfect sketch for us this month. Amber had just went to a football game with Kyle at A&M. My "orange" girl came back "maroon"

Journaling reads: Your 1st college football game. You agreed to go even though you are "Team Longhorn" just to be with Kyle. Your exact words before the game was "I don't even look good in maroon". Red

On a recent road trip we went to College Station for the day and decided that we were going to visit the George Bush Presidential Library. It was actually not too bad at all. There was a new exhibit and it was a dress collection from the Red Dress Collection fashion show that they have in New York every year to raise awareness about Heart Disease in women. There were 12 celebrity dresses and they were all beautiful but there were also 13 First Ladies dresses and I was on a mission to see Jackie's dress. You could look at some of the dresses and tell who they belonged too - Nancy Reagan was a total giveaway, if you have ever seen her...this dress was her!

This is Jackie Kennedy Onassis' dress. Hers was the only one encased. I know its Jackie but I never found out why hers was "so special" to be in a case.

These are the celebrity dresses - some were beautiful and stunning and some where kind of plain Jane. The one that Danica Patrick wore was almost like a summer dress or a dress that you would wear every day while the others were gowns.

If you are in the area, this exhibit runs until August 14, 2011 and it is really pretty eye candy. The Presidential exhibit was pretty outstanding as well. Barbara Bush to me looks like a grandma should look. She is my new favorite :) It was interesting learning about the families of both George and Barbara and how they met. How he got to where he was to become president. If you go, allow yourself at least 2 hours to walk through. We went a little late and had to rush though the Gulf War part which was close to the end. Don't miss the gifts from other leaders that were given during visits either.

This is the statue outside of the library. Its pretty cool and has replicas of the Berlin Wall around the bottom of the horses. Inside the library there are real pieces of the wall that was donated.


I decided that I was going to use my "Red" photos for my layout this month for My Sketch World. I love how they layout turned out but my lighting on this one really sucks. I of course waited until the last minute and had my daughter take the photos...they were way crooked so this one ended up in my bathroom floor with no flash because my photos were glossy and the glare was horrible.

Journaling reads: The Red Dress Collection at the George Bush Library in College Station. Along with all the 1st Ladies dresses and the celebrity dresses they also had areas to raise awareness for heart disease.

I also listed the "owners" of the dresses around the edge of my paper in the order that they are in the photos.

I used Black, Kisses and French Vanilla Bazzill. A Heart lace doily, bling, a Maya Rd dress form chipboard, Glossy Accents, Red Glitter, our tickets to get in the exhibit. Letters are by Heidi Swapp.

Meal Plan Monday 10/11

This week I am going with what we have on hand. I haven't strayed from my plan but I have bought extra which is good because payday isn't until later this week.

I started following a few weeks ago at Org Junkie and the Meal Plan Monday. Its great to check out what everyone is planning for the week and getting new ideas.

A "Sassy Lil' - Who's That Girl" kind of post

Life happens, Life is happening. Some days life happens more than others and some days life just goes on. I am having more life in my weeks than the mundane. Its when you get to the point of "I've got this" that they come along and show you a thing or two and turn you into "How am I going to do this and get it done". Know what I mean? I have faith though that it will get better soon and I hope that any changes are far far in the future.

Because of life...I haven't been scrapping as much as I have in the past. I have three layouts today to share and they will wrap up September.

The 1st layout is for a challenge that I posted myself and never got my layout uploaded...during this time was when all the changes were going on. My challenge was to take 2 photos from consecutive years and scrap them side by side so you could see the changes. I could only find Samantha's photos from middle school. I am not really happy with how this turned out after all.

On the 28th my latest layout for Sassy Lil' Sketches went up and Samantha was so proud of herself. I had to stand out in the front yard for about 30 minutes one night after work while she tried to do the perfect "Irish Kick" and I caught it. Thing is it was harder than it sounded...I couldn't look at her while she did it or she would crack up. So these were caught on continuous with me looking away.

Journaling reads: I have no idea how this all started but this is a pretty common sight these days. So much that you can't walk anywhere without doing your little kick. I don't have to worry about being embarrassed though - you won't do it in front of people.

My layout for Who's That Girl this time was to talk about Lesson's Learned along the way. This one brought up some memories and tears. I miss Emily. I miss talking to her, seeing her daily, hearing about her day or newest boyfriend. I wish things could be like they used to be but I know that more than likely that will never happen.

Menu Monday

I thought this week that I would do something a little different. We have been eating at home so much more than we used to. I think we are down to eating out once a week.

This week I have planned:
Monday: Meatball Subs w/ Oven Fries
Tuesday: Bean & Cheese Enchiladas w/ Spanish Rice
Wednesday: Dinner at the Church
Thursday: Eat Out
Friday: Mediterrian Chicken (crockpot)

Dinner at the church...every Wednesday, the church that we take a class at offers dinner for a free will donation. Last week was our first week that we went and it was awesome! They served Taco Pie, Salad, Chips and Queso and homemade Cheesecake along with Truffles, Cake Balls and Cream Puffs. It was so good.

I haven't scrapped much this month, in fact I think I have only done 4 layouts. I just haven't been motivated and my workload has almost doubled. I am the type of person who has to have a plan or it all goes to hell...and that is where I am. My plan for this week is to get my workload under control and make it work the best way that I can. Wish me luck and I will be back in a few days with a Sassy Layout!
